Fela Yomi-Layinka aka Phizzle aka Oloro Mr Rapper was born in Ibadan on the 9th of Feb 1985 into a media family. His mom works for Tribune Newspapers and his father is a TV producer/director. He has never been far from the camera or the microphone. This young dude’s interest in music started out with dancing, as this was what pulled crowds and girls at high school shows at the time, but he later realized he could pull a few tricks with rap rhymes. Listening to Maintain, Trybesmen, Modenine and Eedris Abdulkareem during the birth of Nigerian Hip-Hop in the late 90s was his early motivation.  He thought to himself, “If these guys can do it, then I can do it too”.

Throughout his first degree at Babcock University he built up this skill and quickly became popular on campus with his unconventional and unique flow. He wrote his graduating class’s song “Otiya” with his then group A-Block. The song has been sung by every graduating class since he left. He graduated with a second class upper degree in Computer Engineering Technology in 2006.
Phizzle then went on to the UK for his second degree in 2007 and currently holds an M Sc in Information Systems Management from Brunel University, London. He chose this degree over his initial aspiration to go to Instituto Marangoni to become a Fashion Designing Master. This was the same institution where Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana, Franco Moschino and many other notable names in the international fashion industry learned the trade.  He still holds on to his love for fashion though and might follow Kanye West’s footsteps someday.

Phizzle is also a very slick graphic artist and does all of his own promotional artwork. He takes a cue from his dad when it comes to video production as well, and you can expect some out-of-the-ordinary videos from Phizzle in the coming months.

With his love for music, and his bulk of talent, Phizzle is set to raise the bar in the Nigerian music industry not only by bringing good music, but also by creating new standards and possibilities for Nigerian artists. There is currently a rumor about Phizzle working on something with Sturvs.com, which is owned by his fellow Babcock alumnus Temi Kolawole, which will be unveiled soon. This has been further highlighted in his Gbono Feli Feli freestyle where he says “Sturvsman got the internet locked…I’m the index finger…swagger on point”. It seems this kid might end up being much more than just a rapper, as he still has his eyes on technology.

He boasts about his Ibadan origin often in his music and is currently making waves on the internet especially with the recent Gbono Feli Feli freestyles done alongside some other Nigerian rappers, namely Rukus, M.I., Matt Sesoo and The Aristokrats. He recently released a mixtape single called “Get Ready (Mo Po Ju)”, in which he rhymed over the instrumental to Mase’s 1999 song with the same title but which was also sampled from 70s group Shamalar, and also drop a valentines special for the ladies called Special Requested. Currently working on another track produced by Kid Konnect (producer of Oladele’s Spray Me Money) and an upcoming mixtape called Ibadan/Lagos/London due to be released sometime this year and we’re so sure an album will follow. It seems the young man is not relenting at all in his efforts because he also just launched his very sleek-looking blog www.itsphizzle.com on his birthday (Feb 9). Corooner of the slang ‘Yex Box’ which is gradually turning a buzz word on the internet, it really seems Phizzle is not just passing by, he is around to make his mark.
